Hey: Charlie, Jim, Spence and I were at Hollywood Hills Saturday night and it was great. The Modifieds were the show and they put on a terrific race. I didn't count but the main probably had 18 to 20 cars. Coach's #5 was the creme of the crop and was hooked up. They had a great crowd as well. Guessing I would say two-thousand spectators. Kudos for Bobby and Kelly.

Might want to look closer at tightness of steering components as well as perhaps tire pressures. Adjust sensitivity of the steering arm. Would increasing the tow out have any effect? Is there excessive play in the steering box itself? Not knowing much in this area, these are items that come to mind. (notice I didnt use the word Sprint Car once in my above statment.)

Hmmm, tank slapper... Should help to kick the rear out when diving into a corner. No brakes needed. DW

there was some tlak on 4cycle about adding an open or 2 stroke class. i'm not sure if it went anywhere. we went out to amarillo a couple of weeks ago, they used something ( not calcium) on the track that made the entire width of the track work like one big groove. there was some 3 wide racing and no dust at all. should be alot of fun.

Cory, The front page is not working at all as far as indexing the site. Your computer may be reading from a cashed page. Unless anyone has a direct link to the forum, they can't access this post at all. I have received some calls and some e-mails about it already. There is no front page address for the webmaster, so I guess the site is useless until fixed.

Just a quick note to say I'm still doing well over here. Was offline for a while but see this thread is still going. Get the chance every now and then to do some fancy driving to avoid suspected VBIEDs. I'm thinking I need some more stagger and cross in my ride but the transportation guys just give me the blank stare when I tell them this. Anyways glad to see you guys are still kicking up dust here and hope all is well!

Hi Greg:

Great to hear from you. Thanks for your service to our country and for protecting our rights as Americans.

Oh-by-the-way; I've been trying to get a handle on Frankenstien but it is kicking my #$$. I told Jimmy I think I'll go back to 100cc motors.

BE SAFE,

DK

Greg,
I have some still photos I will send you this week.

Man, you talk about a fun filled exciting event, that Dodge City Sprint weekend is enough adrenilin to last a year, The Midgets, SCOA,305 Local guys and the NMMRA's made it a full event with 2 heats for each class with over 20 cars starting the mains for all 4 of those classes. (x2 nights I might add).

The clay surface of that track is some of the strangest stuff I have ever seen. Seems after much research hunting down the right track prep guy, I finally got the true history of the race surface. It was originally a paved track that they trucked in clay from a local farmers swamp area that he had pumped dry. Some of the darkest, almost jet black clay is sitting over asphalt thus haveing a moisture barrier sitting 18" below the top of the race surface. This allows for very predictible retention of any water applied to the clay. The heats start with the flinging of clay in the stands in 1/4 x 1/4" cubes as it is expelled from the tire treds then goes from a heavy track to a hard slick track in a matter of a half hour. By the time the mains come around, you actually sit there and get what seems to be very fine dust landing all over you and you think its surface clay being thrown when in actuality, its "Rubber Dust" from the tires, and a lot of it too. Sundays SCOA and Midget heats were producing so much rubber smoke from the right rears that it was impossible to see the cars after they completed the fourth turn, I literally could not see the flagman.

The racing action is so intense that they have 4 hook trucks parked on the infield during a race as there are no minor accidents at that track, virtually all yellows resulted in some car being hooked to the pits severly bent. (roughly 15% mortality rate for each class per main)

Jason Tanners fire was obviously more severe than it appeared as he was in turn 1-2 and we sat in turn 3-4. He was at the track Sunday and somewhat sedated but walking around visiting. Upon his return to Alb. he went to UNMH where doctors decided to do some surgery on his burns.

On the dark side, there was a death at the track as one of the track workers was getting reday to push off a Midget car for som t&t laps immidately following Steves Main which was the last race of the night. He pulled up behind the car ready to push him off and got out to go talk to the driver and fell flat with a heart attack. I went out to assist with the CPR that went on for over 20 minutes untill more ambulances arrived but the staff there had it under control. Unfortunate but what a way to go, doing somthing you loved.

Well theres smoke coming out of my keyboard so at this point Greg, Be safe over there and I will try to send photos this week. See Ya.

Actually Steve, I stand corrected. I just called the Gen. Mgr. at DCRP to thank him for a wondeful event and also to check on the incident. It was afterall a relitive of the Midget driver, and after an hour of CPR and the trip to the hospital, he actually survived but is in bad shape.

The GM said that the crowd enjoyed the non-wing event very much as they dont get to see 'em a lot. He welcomes the NMMRA group back for next years event.

That track along with HHS have excelet web participation. Beth Hazelwood dose the HHS race results live on her laptop at the Hollywood events.

DCRP Saturday results:
