Hi Everybody - due to technical difficulty, there will be NO race on Sunday, September 16th. We are having MAJOR problems with the well (and lack of water in it). We will be able to prep the track for the Saturday Motorcycle race, but will have no way to turn around and have it ready for the kart race on the next day.

I will try to contact everybody tonight to let them know. Sorry!

Leigh Ann

I just report the info I'm given. Point is, there's no way to get enough water on the track on Sunday on time for the race.

According to last years rulebook, this situation would normally result in a make up race. It was voted on at a culb meeting earlier this year that if the Sandia event was rained out, they would have the track for a Sunday make up date. Had that occoured, the club race was to be an official cancelation.

I do not have access to this years rules or minutes. I am sure the BOD will make the appropriate call based on the 2007 local rules.

The good news is that the well is performing at a reduced rate from previous years performance, but it is working at least. A Thank you to all that made it possible.

We did make a decision, the race is Canceled, the track prep people are wore out and we have one last IKF to put on and we have decided to save the well and water for that night.

Oct 13th last race of the season, how about double pts or something of that nature! I know that the race canceling is not a big deal to me but someone else out there might not be able to catch someone in pts seeings with the race cancelled. I know I was there at the meeting when we talked about this, but its just a thought.
Doc
Hey Leanne is there an updated pts list yet, if not no biggie just curious.

Well my thoughts are if you want to race on a dry dusty race track then lets do it because I was told it would take almost 36 to 48 hours to fill the tanks. Now if we use half the water in the tanks for the motor cycle show tomorrow night then where or how will we fill the tanks by the next morning to water the track?

Plus the track crew that is preping the track for the motor cycles are wore out dealing with the well and preping the track. So canceling a race may hurt some feelings but better yet pray for rain, or even better pray for a sugar daddy that will drop $7000 to $8000 for a new well! This one has seen better days, It about 27 years old.

So weather we voted on a rule or not somethings cant be avoided.

Guys and Gals,

I am amazed that the club canceled the Sept 16
race with a 3 day notice. You may want to update the schedule link! Shocked Last meeting I went to was in Feb or March and Dennis asked at both of my last attended meetings about the bike race and the board seemed to ignore him. Razz Jessica and I did not join IKF this year and were going to try to make the few club races that are in the schedule. I guess that we will go to the fair this weekend instead. Arrow

The water issue is valid. The well is in fine shape but due to a reduction in the water table in the area, the new pump needs to be restricted down so as not to cavitate the pump. In laymans terms, it will simply take longer to fill the storage tanks but with all tanks full, there is plenty of water to do almost any event.

We currently have 11,000 gallons of storage and a flow rate of 360 gallons per hour. so roughly 30 hours of fill time if all tanks were empty.

The thing that humours me most is Jimmy saying we are canceling because the crew is tired. Just so others dont get the wrong idea, the water issue has made it marginal for a Sunday day race. Day races are bad enough even with ample water on hand, so rather than run short of water and make it a total disaster, the wise decision was to cancle the Karting event on Sunday. I support this decision and applaud the board for using discretion wisely.

Since when has "too tired" been an option for canceling? Never in the history of Caplin Speedway that I can remember? Get real guys, theres plenty of untapped fresh energy in the club.

The big unser tank that I installed is 10,000 gallons and was installed so we could use tons of water 5 days in a row. If our well is down to such a low flow we have a few options. get a city water hook up (this is probably still unlikely). Drill a new deeper well ( permit required and expensive). or rely totally on the storage. 10.000 gallons is usually enough with what was in the old nitrogen tank as well but if we are now using more than 10,000 gallons to prep the track we may need to install a larger tank.
do I hear winter project....

A 20 hour recovery will be fine...unless we do any 2-day shows.

good points.. I feel that the capacity could be increased if the void or cavity at the base of the perforated well casing was evacuated to remove the sand that surley has caved in around the pipe. I will talk to some wtare well experts and see what they think. Any specifics or information regarding our well will help. The fact that the 10000 gallons that was acidently drained backwards down the well may be a ckue that if we evacuate a bigger void at the bottom we could increse the production.

Thanks, Pat. And just to clarify, I think these are the numbers we're currently at:

13,000 gallons needed to water track (per Wim)
5 gallons pumped per minute
It takes 2600 minutes to pump 13,000 gallons, which is actually 43.33 hours.

I think we were using the 20-hour figure and it's actually double that.

I'm being told that they start on Wednesday evening and finish on Saturday evening. That's 72 hours.
